Practice Details

State Agency: Washington
Practice Provision: Flagger certification and training
Description:
Washington state requires flaggers to be trained and certified and carry a flagging card. The curriculum is based on the MUTCD but has been developed to be specific to Washington requirements. It is available through an intergovernmental agreement with local community colleges. WSDOT also has a reciprocity agreement with Idaho and Montana to accept each other's agreed-upon training programs.
WSDOT HQ Safety Office oversees the safety program including flagger training in cooperation with the state office of Labor & Industries. The State Safety Manager chairs the Traffic Control Oversight Committee that reviews training programs.
