Abstract: This Manual of Traffic Controls for Construction and Maintenance Work Zones (Manual) is published by the State of California, Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and is issued to provide the basic standards for uniform types of warning signs, lights, and devices to be placed upon any public highway or street by any person engaged in performing work which interferes with the movement of traffic upon such highway or street, in accordance with Section 21400 of the California Vehicle Code. This Manual is also Chapter 5 of the Caltrans Traffic Manual (CTM), and is published separately for easy reference.
